Born in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh on 23rd January 1974, Umang Singhar is currently the MLA of Gandhwani Constituency representing Indian National Congress & has previously served the State of Madhya Pradesh as the Forest Minister under the tenure of former Chief Minister – Kamal Nath. Interestingly, Umang Singhar is the nephew of Late Mrs. Jamuna Devi, who herself was a member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly and served as the leader of Opposition and deputy Chief Minister of the state. She was elected as Lok Sabha member from Jhabua. She was also the member of Rajya Sabha from 1978 to 1981. The 48-year old leader is known for his philanthropist activities since the beginning of his political career. Over the years, Umang has not just been actively involved into politics, but has been equally devoted towards several volunteering activities & charity as well. A little above two decades ago, Singhar started out with his political journey at a very young age, by becoming a member of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress in the year 2001. Later wards, seeing his diligence towards his duties, he was appointed as the Youth Congress District President for Dhar district. After furnishing his managerial & leadership skills, in 2004, Umang took part in the Loksabha Elections as an INC Candidate. At a very initial stage of his career, Congress high command showed the trust on him and nominated Umang as the Candidate of Dhar Loksabha constituency. In 2008 Madhya Pradesh Vidhansabha elections, Singhar fought from Gandhwani constituency of Dhar district against Chattarsingh Darbar of BJP and won his first election with a huge margin of over 21000 votes. He became the MLA of Ghandhwani Constituency & there has been no turning back after that for him. He continued to serve as an MLA with the sole aim of uplifting the living standards of the tribal people of his constituency, by means of improving the education system, arranging for better health & sanitation facilities & providing several new ways of livelihood. All this developed an unparalleled devotion in the hearts of the people towards him & henceforth, he once again won the next Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Elections held in 2013 , against SardarSingh Medha of BJP, making him the MLA of Gandhwani Constituency for the second time. After the second victory, it has been an impossible task for his rivals & competitors to defeat Singhar. Obviously, he won again in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Vidhansabha Elections with a clean sweep of more than 96000 votes against Sardarsingh Medha of BJP, making him the MLA for the third time in a row. Other than being the MLA of Gandhwani since 2008, Umang Singhar has also outperformed at several other responsibilities given to him time & again by the Congress High Command. During the INC reign under the term of Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh (2019 – 2020), Umang Singhar was appointed as the Forest Minister of the state where he further got opportunities to show his capacity of serving the society selflessly.
